As a Ruby Backend Engineer you will be a core member of one of our product teams. You will apply your technical expertise to build robust and well-architected APIs, and in addition to contributing with your coding skills, you’re expected to contribute ideas and input into all stages of the product lifecycle.

What you will be working on

• Collaborating as a member of a product-focused team to deliver data and functionality for consumption by our web and mobile apps.
• Work together to identify and address technical debt, code inefficiencies and performance bottlenecks to continuously improve our application, with the user’s experience and user business value in mind.
• Collaborate with platform engineers to deploy, monitor and maintain production environments, ensuring high availability and reliability of our applications.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
• Act as a technical advocate in product discussion to represent our engineering capabilities and contribute to our overall technical strategy.
• Drive the architectural design and implementation of efficient, reusable backend systems and APIs that power our web and mobile applications.

What we are fishing for:

• You have 5+ years of experience developing applications and APIs in Ruby, and running distributed services in a cloud environment.
• You have strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, design patterns, and complexity analysis.
• You have extensive professional experience working with PostgreSQL or mySQL databases at a large scale.
• You're smart, get stuff done, have great energy, and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Extra nice to have:
  • Experience designing GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience with infrastructure such as ElasticSearch (especially Ruby plugin SearchKick), AWS, Docker or Terraform.
  • Experience with Go or Python.
  • Experience designing systems at scale and under heavy load.
  • You have experience with working with geographic data in PostGIS.
  • Experience with frontend development (React/Typescript).

Our office is based in Stockholm (Hötorget) and we have a hybrid-remote work arrangement. We prioritize in-person collaboration, which means we operate from our offices at least two days per week.
